France - Chateau de Chambord

The Loire valley is full of Chateaus, but we only visited two. After Villandry we stopped at Chambord. Jean le Breton, one of King François I’s finance ministers, built Villandry as well as supervised the construction of Chambord in the 1500's. I am very impressed with the knowledge and focus on detail that went into this building. There are 365 chimneys! (thus the elaborate roof).

Not all of the rooms are furnished, but the ones that we saw are exquisite. Many rooms were full of antlers of hunting prizes. They were on plaques with the name of the country where the animal had been caught.

The letter 'F' and a dragon were carved into everything:
doors, walls, ceiling, etc.

Leonardo da Vinci visited Chambord during construction, and it is believed he influenced the staircase design. There are several of these and they are beautiful. There were so many details. Even the water spout was creative!
