France - Juillan

Just outside Tarbes, France, in the south by the Pyre'ne'es mountains, is a little town called Juillan. We stayed at Lou Batistou, a pretty bed and Breakfast. It took us an hour to find, and we realized the benefit of getting step-by-step directions. =) It was worth it in the end. The owners, Nathalie and Patrick, restored this old home, doing most of the work themselves. The guest wing used to be an old sheep stall and barn. This was the loveliest guest home we stayed in.

Patrick is an athletic trainer for his 15 year old son, who is training to be a professional bicyclist. (On the weekend we saw hundreds of cars going by with bikes attached. Bicycling is not just a pasttime in France.) Here he feeds his chickens. They have a nice garden and they use all these things in what they serve for breakfast.

The two garden turtles roam free.

Every european town seems to have its own church. Juillan was no exception. I would have liked to photograph all the amazing church buildings we saw. In Paul's photo, he is standing in the town's Boules court. It is common for villages to have one. What a great way to meet your neighbors!
